A Glad Father

God knows you. He made you, and all that you see around you.

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

After God made all that we see around us, He set up some guidelines for us to follow. This Father’s Day, we’ll look at some of those pertaining to fathers.

Proverbs 28:7  Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: . . .

Proverbs 10:1  The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father:. . .

Proverbs 15:20  A wise son maketh a glad father: . . .

Proverbs 23:24-25  The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.  Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

On Father’s Day, we honor our fathers.  On Mother’s Day, we honor our mothers.  On these days we give them gifts to show our love for them. (The other 363 days of the year, they provide gifts for us!)  But regardless what day it is, the greatest gift we as children can give our parents is to be wise in our ways.  That makes them proud of us, and makes them glad we are their sons and daughters.

The same is true of our Heavenly Father – He wants us to make Him proud too!

I John 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

That’s right – NOW God is our Father too. And when we keep His Word and walk in the righteousness that He has given us, we make Him glad!  Just as His only son, Christ Jesus, made His Father "well pleased"!

What do you get out of this? The reward to you is long life upon the land which the Lord your God has given to you, and happiness.  You too shall share Jesus' laughter.

Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

So, do you want to make this a happy Father’s Day?  Then be true to God’s Word.   Be wise – keep His laws.  This will make both your earthly and heavenly father proud of you.
