PurposeTrained Cub Scout leaders provide a quality, fun-filled program for boys. When leaders understand the whys and hows of Cub Scouting, they are more effective in their roles. Trained leaders know how to use the available resources to provide an exciting and worthwhile program for the boys. Trained leaders also have confidence in carrying out their roles and responsibilities. As a result, Cub Scouts receive a program designed to achieve Scouting's aims of citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Methods of TrainingThe Cub Scout Leader Training manual contains the information needed for the three methods of training: group training, personal coaching, and self-study. Group basic training courses may be conducted as a five-hour, half-day course, or in two evening sessions, depending on local needs and resources. Basic Training may also be delivered by personal coaching using the guidelines found in Cub Scout Leader Training. Leaders can study the literature in advance using the Cub Scout Leader Basic Training Self-Study Guide.
