Norman Rockwell Exhibit Tour - rescheduled from Wednesday, March 10th to Thursday, March 11th from 8:00 pm to about 8:30 pm -- at the Santa Fe Building in downtown Amarillo.  We were going to meet in the lobby of the Santa Fe Building at ten minutes till six, then see the exhibit of Norman Rockwell's Scouting paintings. However, the truck carrying the exhibit to Amarillo from Dallas broke down, so all of the Wednesday night viewings were cancelled.  I received an email Thursday afternoon that viewing were going to be available for Troops that night, but it was too late to let everyone know about it.  Adults were welcome to come. For many of our boys this would have been a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see these paintings, which are on a national tour for the last time. There weren't any Den or Patrol meetings on Monday, March 8th, because everyone was going to go see the exhibit.
Pack 1's Winter Camp - Friday evening, March 26th thru Sunday morning, March 28th, 2004 - Camping in Palo Duro Canyon State Park from Friday evening thru Sunday morning.

The temperature last year was 72 for the high and 36 for the low, but it may be much colder (or warmer) this year. It is a good idea to check the weather forecast before you finish packing.
Equipment check before we leave (to make sure your Scout has the right kind of camping gear, i.e., a warm enough sleeping bag & clothes for the weather conditions, food, water, hiking stick, etc.).
Check out the Scout Camping checklist to see what should be brought.

Be sure to tell them your son is with "Pack 1" because we're registering Pack 1 and Pack 99 on the same form.
We plan on car pooling down to Camp Don, and on all our boys going at the same time. If you have a conflict with this, be sure to inform your Den Leader in advance.
This event usually started at noon, but this year it will begin at 1:00 p.m.  Chuck has confirmed that this is the correct starting time. So we will need to be at Camp Don between 12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m., and we need to meet and leave the Ridgecrest parking lot not later than 12:10 p.m. (ten minutes after noon).
Earn some Scout advancements and have some cool Fall fun!

Scouting Trip to the Amarillo Globe News at 8:45 am & Amarillo Police Dept. at 10:00 am on Monday, January 17, 2005 - The kids are out of school, and some of you will be off from work that day as well (Chuck and Mario are federal employees so they will be off).  Rather than just do nothing that day Mario and Chuck have arranged for a very exciting day for the boys.  January's Scouting theme is "Spread the News."  And, in keeping with that theme, we have arranged to meet at 8:45 am in the lobby of the newspaper (on the east side of the building, at 9th and Harrison) for a tour of the Amarillo Globe News.  The Globe arranges for many groups to tour the facility, but most of them never get to see the presses running because the paper is usually printed at 11 o'clock at night.  BUT, on Monday, January 17, 2005 they will run the presses for an hour at 9 am.  So we will get a bonus to our tour.
After the tour we will go over to the Police Department for a tour, and then go to Subway for lunch.  For approximately $5 we will have a nutritious lunch.  During the tour of the main police station at 3rd and Fillmore we'll take care of many of the other requirements for rank achievements.
We would like every boy to be able to attend, including those whose parents work that day.  So we'll try to coordinate some type of car pool or something for that day.  We'll meet at the Globe News, then carpool over to the Police Dept., then to Subway to eat, then go to the old Potter County Courthouse to hear Mario give Dr. ML King, Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech.
We should be at the lobby of the Globe by 8:45 am for the tour.  We plan on meeting there between 8:30 and 8:45.  We gave the marketing director a final head count of 25, but if you're interested in participating, please email Mario with your numbers.  He will also use this information to let the police station know.  The day ended at 12:30 pm.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Mario Price or Chuck Freas.

Be sure to bring pen and paper to capture all new ideas.
Wear your class A uniforms, or clothing in this year's theme (a Birthday Party in honor of Cub Scouting's 75th Anniversary!).

April, 2005

Cub Scout Winter Camp - Friday evening, April 8th thru Sunday morning, April 10th, 2005 - Camping in Palo Duro Canyon State Park from Friday evening thru about noon Sunday morning.
Tigers, Bobcats, Wolves & Bears must go with a least one parent/guardian. Webelos only can go without their parents/guardians.
Cost will be $15.00 per person.  That covers your main meals, drinks and water.
We will go on a hike to Lighthouse Rock, a five mile hike, so bring a canteen & a hiking stick to take on the hike. Bring a snack to eat on a hike, and a backpack or fanny pack to carry it in.
We'll met at the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the parking lot at 5:45 pm Friday afternoon.
Bring your warmest sleeping bag (at least a 3 1/2 pound [i.e., a 28~30 degree rated] bag is preferred), blankets, and your tent. The temperature last year was 72 for the high and 36 for the low, but it may be much colder (or warmer) this year. It is a good idea to check the weather forecast before you finish packing.
Be sure and check your equipment to make sure your Scout has the right kind of camping gear, i.e., a warm enough sleeping bag & clothes for the weather conditions, food, water, hiking stick, etc.
Check out the Scout Camping checklist to see what should and must not be brought.
